Comparing Phong Van No. 4 and Phong Van No. 5, No. 4 is rich and No. 5 is light.
This is the difference between one-water tea (early spring) and two-water tea (late spring). I understand it very well.
When I went to Yunnan, I bought one-water tea and two-water tea.
Now I think one-water tea tastes better. In the hot summer, I want to drink two-water tea.
I am very happy with these teas. I will bring them to my next tea party.

Hong Van 2017 - This was a very interesting tea. The delicate sun dried leaves were surprising in their appearance. This black tea was sun dried in the spring of 2017. The first extraction was very sweet but with strong overtones of "scented sawdust" The second extraction it changed completely, loosing some of its sweetness but also the wooden notes. The liquor is incredibly thin, just like drinking water.
By this time I was hooked on this tea and just wanted to get to the 3rd extraction. I used a 120ml Gaiwan, next time I will use an 85mm Gaiwan. The 3rd & 4th extractions were my favourite.
I pushed the brew time up to around 35 seconds. This made the liquor Silky smooth on the palate. The taste now mellowed to sweet dried grass. By the 5th extraction I felt the taste had dissipated but I should have probably given it a longer brewing time of nearly 1 minute. A complex and unusual black tea with much to experience.

Hong Van - 2017
My apologies for the delay in getting back to you, but I want to thank you again for your generosity on this order. I've learned quite a bit about Vietnamese tea from this, and am excited to keep exploring.
I was very surprised by your Moc Van 4; the aroma is quite smoky, but the flavor of the tea is smooth and velvety. It took a few brews with the hong can, but I've found a slightly higher ratio and lower temperature made it shine.
I was quite impressed with the consistent smoky flavor of your green teas, each of which I also tried cold brewed and enjoyed quite a bit. Your white teas are stellar. I tried the Ngoc Van close to bed time, as the description states it wouldnt keep me awake, and you're right! It's currently my bedtime tea.
In all, I found that your teas all show a cohesive quality;their curation is obviously meticulous, and with a singular vision. I'm excited to try more. Thank you again.

Bach Van 2 is made from ancient Shan Tuyet tea buds, and two leaves, from the ancient tea area of Lung Vai, in the Tay Con Linh, Ha Giang with an altitude of over 1200m above sea level. My cup of tea: lam ha gaba ☕️ after a long day of cycling through ninh binh, i’m ending it in the very relaxing way - watching the stunning limestone karsts that make this place so unique over special cup of tea ???? This gaba, grown in the unique terroir of lam ha/lam dong, is rich in minerals thanks to the region’s volcanic soil and temperate climate. it has smooth texture, and earthy&subtly floral notes make it highly aromatic. after being in wuyi mountains for a while, i’m currently fully into rocky oolongs and gaba surprisingly fits also quite well into ???????????? the calming gaba in ninh binh today seems to be the perfect way to wind down and fully enjoy the moment "

Drinking Phong Van 4 2024 Raw Pu-er from @bavantea.
This is a large leaf assamica varietal as you can clearly see. The origin is from Dien Bien, Vietnam, altitude 1400m
I used 5gr to 120ml of water at 95C
Dry tea leaves have a sweet aroma with delicate notes of pine wood.
The taste was sweet, honey with an aftertaste mildly bitter on the tip of my tongue.
Very refreshing energizing tea, surprisingly good considering it's "youth."
Phong Van 4
Hong Van 2 from Bavantea just great for this cloudy rainy afternoon.
Tea type: Black tea.
Variety: Ancient Shan Tuyet.
Location: Tay Con Linh, Ha Giang, Vietnam
Altitude: 1300m.
Aroma: honey, dried flowers.
Taste: sweet, warm.
The sweetness is subdued in a fine balancing act with the taste of dried flowers. I found it quite intriguing, interesting. These are of course adjectives that say very little, not by accident because I am trying to form an opinion.
I think I will give it a 4 out of 5. I did enjoy the tea session.

I chose to do this with Oriental Beauty Oolong – 2018 from Bavantea
This aged Oriental Beauty is delicious.
Varietal: O Long Thanh Tam.
Location: Moc Chau, Son La.
Aroma: nectar, dried flowers.
Taste: sweet, light, warm.
Mộc Châu is a picturesque district located in Sơn La Province, Vietnam. It's well-known for its stunning natural beauty, with rolling hills, lush tea plantations, and colorful flower fields.
Mộc Châu has some of the largest tea plantations in Vietnam. The scenery is breathtaking, with rows of green tea bushes stretching across the hills.
The region is famous for its vibrant flower fields, especially the white plum blossoms in late winter and the blooming mustard flowers in the spring.
Mộc Châu is home to various ethnic groups, including the Muong and H'mong people. It has many natural areas featuring beautiful landscapes like the Dai Yem Waterfall and the picturesque Mộc Châu Lake.
Mộc Châu has a cool climate, the weather is generally pleasant, with beautiful mornings and cool evenings.
My Van 1 Oriental Beauty 2018 captures the spirit of Mộc Châu with its delicate, gentle aroma and complex floral notes. The tea is made from one-bud, one-leaf purebred oolong tea at about 1200m above sea level.
My Van 1 Oriental Beauty transports you magically to the Son La Province.
Try some meditation, feel relaxed just like walking in a forest surrounded by ripe flowers and fruits.

Moc Van 2 Dahongpao from Bavantea
Varietal: Qing Xin Oolong cultivar
Origin: Moc Chau – Son La area, under Da Hong Pao tea (Big Red Robe tea) making process.
Moc Chau plateau, with an average altitude of 1,000-1,200m above sea level is cool all year round, the annual average temperature is 18.5 degrees Celsius, the average rainfall is 1560 mm, the average humidity of the air is about 85%.
This climate is suitable for the development of Oolong tea tree and helps to create rich tea flavors.
Aroma: ripe fruit flowerpollen and honey.
Liquor: amber, bright and clear
Body sensation: pronounced warming, with long-lasting sweet and smooth aftertaste.
I was able to take this tea to 6 extractions. The strong ripe fruit note is very dominant and delicious.
Well done Xuân Hiến

Lihn Van 1 is sun-dried white tea made from one bud and one leaf of the ancient Shan Tuyet varietal grown in Suoi Giang, Yen Bai province, with an altitude of 1400m above sea level.
The tea has a sweet and special scent of honey and forest pollen.
1st extraction the tea was very sweet with slight floral fragrance. I did not wash the tea beforehand and found the liquor to be slightly thick/oily.
The following ectractions, the taste was more crisp, defined, the liquor clear & soft and the taste astonishingly sweet.
Unlike the 2022 Lihn Van 1, silver needle that had dry grass notes this younger edition was like a sweet lollipop on a stick!
I have drunk silver needle from a number of vendors. All were delicious, each one had it's own character. Lihn Van 1 is reflecting the Vietnamese heritage & the meticulous processing from Bavantea
LINH VAN 1

Tea Region: Giang Pang, Yen Bai, Vietnam

Tasting notes: wood, gentle sweetness almost like faint kumquat because it was both sweet & acidic at the same time. A surprisingly pleasant drink for it's youth.
Leaves: large fleshy leaves turning dark green after extraction.
I used around 98c water and I was impressed how the ball opened up after the first wash then first extraction.
PHONG VAN 3
Today I tried a "tea ball" from Bavantea .

BACH VAN 1 - 2023
Ngoc Van
Type: Red Oolong
Origin: Moc Chau plateau, Son La province
Altitude: 1200 metres
Tasting notes: The tea is lightly floral, honey-sweet with complex flavors that range from fruity to honey to sweet & nutty over successive infusions,
This is a delicious, relaxing and very affordable tea from Bavantea .
A very soothing calming tea suitable for any time of the day.
NGOC VAN
Drinking a relaxing afternoon tea. No scones or cake I am afraid, just tea.
It is however delicious, slight floral, fruity, good for the soul!

MY VAN 3
I must admit I was skeptical about this roasted green tea but in fact I found it to be most enjoyable.
Son Van: Roasted green tea from Bavantea
Type: Green Tea.
Varietal Old Shan Tuyet.
C.S. var Sinensis
Origin: Lung Phin, Ha Giang, Vietnam
Altitude: 1600m.
Aroma: Rock moss, sweet, faint roasted scent.
Aroma wet leaves: umami, wet rock, seaweed
Taste: Sweet, umami, mild astringency, grass
1st extraction 30 secs, 4.5gr to 120ml in porcelain Gaiwan at 88C
The mild roasted overtones instead of conflicting with the tea, they add another layer that somehow is harmonious with the overall taste.
The tea soup is oily & the body sensation was calming.
This is the kind of tea that reminds me always to have an open mind.
Thank you Nguyễn Huy Phong
SON VAN
Long Van 1 from Bavantea
Type: Green Oolong.
Variety: Oolong Thanh Tam. Quin Xin.
C.S. var Sinensis.
Origin: Moc Chau, Son La, Vietnam.
Altitude: 1200m.
Fragrance: light floral, milk cream.
Taste: Sweet, gentle floral tones, refreshing.
Body: Smooth, silky, oily.
I love all Oolong teas, light, green, red, roasted. I prefer the lighter oolongs as a morning drink and the darker oolongs in the afternoon hours.
This Oolong is very refreshing with a light grassy aftertaste. This tea does not have complexity, nor will it develop over extractions. It will however provide a refreshing drink. I guess it would also make a good cold Brew.
Thank you

My Van 1: Oriental Beauty 2018.
Origin: Son La, Vietnam
Altitude 1200m
Qing Xin
C.S. var Sinensis
I used 4.5gr to 120ml at 85C first extraction 30 seconds.
I was super excited about this tea, I had so enjoyed Oriental Beauty 2024 from Bavantea and I have been looking forward to making a comparison.
The 2024 I described as:
Aroma: Nectar, dried flowers, sesame energy bar, hypnotizing.
Taste: elegant, sweet, warm.
This 2018 has multiple layers, the aroma is sweet but there is an underlying musty smell reminiscent of a Pu-er tea.
The taste was sweet, floral, earthy and with a truly grounding body sensation.
Liquor: Silky smooth, medium body.
A superb "variation" of Oriental Beauty that took me on a mystical journey. An outstanding tea, thank you
